The Institute for Materials in Civil Engineering is partner for research and development in the new cooperation network plastic free building "Building O.K.". 15 renowned representatives from industry, research and teaching have joined to develop plastics-free building with sustainable products and an overall concept for healthy living.

The construction industry accounts for around 20 percent of European plastics consumption, which totals 65 million tonnes (2017[1]). The aim of "Gebäude O.K" is to minimize this consumption by developing alternative products and establishing aspects of recycling management in construction. This includes, for example, the use of mineral building materials for insulation, the avoidance of microplastics, but also issues of packaging for delivery, processing or recycling

The partners of the new network cover the entire value chain in the construction sector. It thus bundles their expertise in terms of innovations for the construction of virtually plastic-free buildings. The cooperation network is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy within the framework of the Central Innovation Program for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (ZIM).
